Google Play Store in pakistan

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - As a result of the agreement reached between the Ministry of Finance and Google to unblock payments to overseas service providers, including Google, the impending suspension of paid services for the Google Play Store in Pakistan will no longer be necessary.

It was mentioned by Aminul Haque, who is the Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, while he was updating the media on his discussion with the relevant authorities.

The minister sprang into action after it was reported that paid services of the Google Play Store would not be available to users in Pakistan as of the 1st of December. This was due to the fact that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) had blocked $34 million in payments to international service providers by suspending the direct carrier billing (DCB) mechanism. Consequently, the Google Play Store paid services would not be available to users in Pakistan.

Later on, the central bank responded by saying that the rumours in the media about withholding certain payments to Google were "baseless and deceptive."

Due to the infractions that were committed by Telcos, the SBP said that it has taken several steps to facilitate the domestic firms.

Mr. Haque stated that the ministry of finance had given instructions to the SBP to disburse payments to the service providers in accordance with the timetable. The directive also instructs the central bank to delay for one month the implementation of the most recent regulation regarding payments for paid services offered by Google Play Store.

According to what he stated, telecommunications companies had also been given one month to put the new system for making payments in accordance with the guidelines provided by the SBP.

Ishaq Dar, minister of finance, was commended for making a judgement at the appropriate moment by the minister of information technology.
